இலங்கை அருகே குறைந்த காற்றழுத்த தாழ்வு நிலை தொடர்ந்து நீடிக்கிறது. இதன் காரணமாக தமிழகத்தில் தென் மாவட்டங்களில் சில இடங்களில் இன்றும் (வியாழக்கிழமை), நாளையும் (வெள்ளிக்கிழமை) லேசானது முதல் மிதமானது வரை மழை பெய்யும். வட மாவட்டங்களில் கடலோர பகுதியில் ஓரிரு இடங்களில் மழை பெய்ய வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது. தமிழகத்தில் வடகிழக்கு பருவமழை 62 சதவீதம் குறைவாக பெய்துள்ளது
